Why I Started

I have been working in the footwear industry since 2015, experiencing conventional manufacturing firsthand and seeing the challenges that often come with it.

Over the years, I began to see a significant shift in how businesses were being built. By observing the growth of D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) brands and the evolution of markets such as the U.S. and China, I saw a similar opportunity emerging in India.

I strongly believe that India is entering a period of accelerated growth, and that the coming years will see homegrown brands become increasingly influential in the Indian market. By 2030, I believe the D2C ecosystem could become a major force, with footwear and textiles playing an important role in that growth.

But I also saw a fundamental challenge for these emerging brands.

Indian manufacturers often required high MOQs, while importing from China could mean higher landed costs, logistics, longer lead times, and greater complexity. For a young brand working with a limited budget, both options could create a significant barrier to entry.

That led me to a simple question:

Why should a new brand need a large investment just to start manufacturing?

That question became the foundation of MakeMyShoe.

The idea was to bridge the gap between high domestic MOQs and the cost of importing, by making footwear manufacturing accessible at lower MOQs. This would allow emerging brands to start with a smaller investment, test their products, build their identity, and scale as their business grows.

What began as a problem I witnessed firsthand became a larger vision—to make footwear manufacturing more accessible to the next generation of Indian D2C brands and help homegrown businesses build and grow from India.

2021- The Idea

2024- MakeMyShoe Takes Shape

My journey in the footwear industry began in 2015. Working within the conventional manufacturing ecosystem gave me firsthand experience of how the industry operated—and helped me understand the challenges faced by both manufacturers and emerging businesses.

By 2021, I began exploring a larger opportunity. The rise of D2C brands and the changing Indian consumer market made me believe that the next decade would create significant opportunities for homegrown businesses. I started conceptualizing a business model that could make footwear manufacturing more accessible to emerging brands, particularly by addressing the challenge of high MOQs.

In 2024, the vision became a reality. MakeMyShoe was established with a clear purpose: to bridge the gap between high domestic manufacturing MOQs and the challenges of importing, giving emerging brands access to lower-MOQ footwear manufacturing.
